I need Help to get my girlfriend back to the US. She is stuck In Istanbul Turkey…………………………?
Hope someone can help… My girlfriend has lived and worked in Istanbul turkey for over two years. She is a US citizen and holds a US passport. She was booked to fly to the US and immigration declined her to leave because she didn’t have travel money on her in the amount of $1500 USD. If anyone has any Ideas or suggestions it would help. Thanks…..
Oh, and she has also over stayed her tourist visa
First of all, you do not need to pay any travel fees to your own government when you are returning to the country of your origin (citizenship). Either you formulated the question wrong, or don’t have all the facts right.
Most likely situation is that your girlfriend is trying to live Turkey with an expired Turkish visa (or expired residency permit) and in that case she needs to pay the fine before she is allowed to leave the country.
In either case, it would be best for you guys to contact the US Embassy or Consulate in order to resolve the situation.

Contact your Embassy explaining the situation, I’m surer they can be of some help, good luck

She’s returning to her native country….she doesn’t require any money to leave. If she’s now over stayed her visa tell her to go to immigration and they will deport her.

like the previous answerer,i think it makes no sense. a country usually likes to deport the brokes out of its borders, rather than keeping them by force. i think you miss something in this story. what comes to my mind is that she may be kept due to a criminal activity. hope it’s not btw.
